For the past six years I’ve had a wonderful relationship with Dick Staub and the tribe he founded called The Kindlings. Each year (except for this sabbatical year) they’ve hosted KindlingsFest on Orcas Island. Artists from many disciplines, and those who appreciate them, gather for almost a full week of fellowship, lectures, films, community walks, worship, etc. In 2010 I was asked to be Musician-in-Residence for that year’s gathering. The other years I’ve attended, I wasn’t officially “on the bill” but often found myself singing sometime during the proceedings. In 2013, the festival theme was “Re-Imagining the Good Life”. I was asked to share something about “What I’ve Learned About the Good Life So Far”. Click below for my eight-minute reading of my essay. I hope you’ll find it worth your time.
